Our Lives Have Been Impacted

Thank you so much for following our blog, supporting us, and praying for us. Guatemala was an incredible adventure! It was humbling to get to serve alongside of the National team and join in what God is doing in Guatemala. For our last blog, we want to share with you all how the Lord impacted us during our trip. Each of our staff shared one of their favorite pictures and a quick sentence or two of something they learned. Hope you enjoy! I learned the importance of living in freedom and not clinging to things. This world is temporary and […]

Día Seis: Closing Ceremony

¡Hola! Today marked our last day with the campers. It was tough to see the little ones leave after so much laughter and games, but what a blessing it has been! This morning was filled with bible studies and cooking! Kids and counselors created their own lunch and desserts – Comida Campestre. We split potatoes in half, placed a hot dog inside, wrapped the meal in foil, and cooked them over a fire. 45 minutes later, we had lunch! For dessert, we sliced a banana open and put marshmallow inside. The finished product was very gooey and so rich! […]

Día Cinco: The Rally

¿Como estan? It was the first full day of camp for los niños. Today was jam packed with two bible studies, camp activities, and a nighttime campfire.  Throughout the day, kids participated in a rally, rotating stations around camp and played fun, camp games. We relived our childhood with face painting and a giant parachute. This afternoon, we cooled off with Water Olympics! From relay races to water balloons fights, the kids were running around soaking wet and smiles on their faces.  Since being in Guatemala, our eyes and hearts have been opened. Los niños are learning ¿Quién es Primero? […]

Día Cuatro: Los Niños

¡Hola, que pasa! It is day four in Guatemala. Unfortunately today, we had to say goodbye to our high school campers. But we said hello to our elementary campers! Almost double the amount of campers arrived today at 4pm today, and they certainly brought the energy. From Jenga to Water-Jug-Baseball, it has been a blast to have six to thirteen year olds running around! This afternoon, we had another Olympic Ceremony for los niños. Each cabin was assigned a color of the Olympic rings and created team names and chants. Later in the night, the cabins competed against one another […]

Dìa Tres: Water Olympics

¿Hola, que tal? It is our first full day of camp! Today included team building stations, water Olympics, going deeper in God’s word and strengthening our relationships with the Guatemalan team, as well as the campers. The water Olympic games included many competitions and relays. However, the most enjoyable was having Pine Cove counselors try and guess the names of various Olympic Games in Spanish. If the counselor guessed incorrectly, they would be doused with water. After multiple laughs and wrong answers, the campers had the chance to guess the Olympic Games in English, with the same consequences. In bible […]

Dia Dos: Campers

¡Buenos noches! Campers are here, and the time is flying by! Today was filled with camp activities, dance moves, and our own Olympic Ceremony. We welcomed campers with a Pine Cove gauntlet, getting them excited to be here. Once everyone was moved in to his or her cabin assignments, camp was in full swing. Two Pine Cove staffers join a cabin of five to six campers, lead by a Guatemalan counselor. Each cabin was given a country and created a flag to represent the country. The countries ranged from Germany to Greece, all the way to Argentina. After all the […]

Día Uno: Arrival

¡Bienvenidos! We made it to Guatemala and are looking forward to our week ahead. The weather is beautiful and the people have been incredibly hospitable.   We had an early start to our day out of DFW at 4:15am. We connected in Miami to catch our final flight to Guatemala City. When we arrived, the leaders welcomed us with open arms, excited to take us to the campsite.    Once we arrived at camp, we met up with the Guatemalan Team and started building relationships with one another. For dinner, we ate a Guatemalan hot dog specialty, Shucos. It was a […]
