Hola America!

Hola Amigos, the gringos(the Dominican phrase for Americans) have made it back to America! We managed to make it back with all of our luggage, a pretty good tan(and/or sunburn), some sweet friendships, and a whole lot more knowledge about the power and goodness of Jesus Christ. Honestly our last day was just filled with travel, which would go as most people would expect. But as we got back to the Miami airport, we met up with some of the other Pine Cove groups that were flying back in from their trips. As we waited for our luggage to come […]

First Tourist Day!

I can’t believe it’s already our last full day in the Dominican. The past couple of days have been a whirlwind of fun and laughter and several hard goodbyes. After breakfast on Sunday we met one last time with our campers and co-counselors. This time of goodbyes was easily the hardest closing day I’ve had. We then headed to our national staff’s church and got to see where they worship the Lord each week. It was surprising how similar their service was to the ones we all attend back home! Our team then went to an authentic Dominican restaurant to have time […]

Cabin Photos

Campers left this morning and we honestly can’t believe it. This week has flown by way too fast and we are missing our campers already. We did manage to get some cabin photos yesterday that we couldn’t pass up sharing: We couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids and staff to hang out with for 5 days. Keep an eye out for the next blog to hear more about the week, what’s happened since they left and what we’re doing next!

Today is the final day of campamento! The clock hit 7am and golden morning light filled the girl’s cabin. This morning was a bit slower and we were able to steal a couple extra minutes of sleep from a late night in which campers did something called a “Night Walk” and Pat elaborated on Galatians 2:20. The past five days have absolutely flown by with these kids and the national staff here and what a blessing it has been to see the plentiful harvest that the Lord has set before our presence and will continue once we are gone. Whether […]

“Ya No Soy Yo” (No Longer I)

Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Throughout this week the campers have been going through this verse here in Galatians 2. The bible study, the dramas (skits), and many of the games and events have centered around the first part of Galatians 2:20. It’s been divided into three main parts. First, that with Christ you have been given NEW […]

Day 3 of Camp!

My name is Ben “It’s Cookie Time” Richey and I am a student at Auburn University. Last summer was my first summer at Pine Cove and I am extremely excited that he has given me the opportunity to come serve on this trip. The joy of the Lord is evident here in the Dominican. Yesterday, we had what we call camp skills in the middle of the day. These included swimming lessons, hand-eye coordination games, and cooking instruction among other things. After that, we went to rest time, or what was supposed to be rest time. Instead of taking the scheduled […]

Mangu – Man That’s Good

Today marks our first full day of camp! We woke up this morning at 6:30 to the sound of loud music and laughter. We had a short quiet time after everyone got ready for the day, then off to breakfast at 8:30. Most of us tried a plantain based dish called mangu for the first time, it was different to say the least. We were told the name originated from Americans saying, “Man thats good.” At 10 we started our two hour bible study where the kids dove into the Word and answered questions about Bible stories. Lunch was served […]

Campers Have Arrived!

We hit the ground running with our first full day in the Dominican Republic! Breakfast was at 8 and campers were scheduled to arrive at 9:30. They arrived with smiles on their faces and energy that was ready for a week at camp! We had cabin assignments followed by cabin meetings and then lunch was served. After lunch we headed out to our first round of activity classes. With baseball fields, soccer fields, a couple of pools, archery, and much more, we had a ton of fun with our campers! After activity classes, everyone headed for the showers. It feels […]

We Made It… And So Did Our Luggage!!

After a long day, we made it! The day started with a 4am wakeup call and a quick ride to the airport. From there it was smooth sailing. We had a short layover in Miami and then made it to the DR without a hitch, which is always a win. And an even bigger win, we made it with all of our luggage. Last year, our team arrived to the Dominican and were without our bags for 3 days. Needless to say, it’s already been a huge blessing and an answer to prayer that we made it safely with all of […]
