We got to have our tourism day today. It was fantastic. It was a great time for us to relax, rest up, and rejuvenate our bodies. We got to go to the beach and swim in the Pacific Ocean. We also got to go to a mall here in San Salvador and bask in some air conditioning and shop if we wanted to.
We woke up early today so that we could get started on our long day. We had a couple of people feeling under the weather last night and into today so we were looking forward to some rest. Everyone is feeling better now and God blessed us with the time of being sick on the day that we didn’t have camp. Now we can fully focus on the campers tomorrow!
We drove almost 2 hours to get to the beach which is in La Paz, El Salvador if you would like to look it up on a map. We were amazed at this place. It was a resort. It was set on the beach and from our cabana we could walk into the ocean. Throughout the day, some of us swam in the ocean and got crashed on by waves, some of us took naps in the comfy hammocks, some of us swam in the pool, and some of us laid out and caught some rays. We had the option of steak, chicken or fish for lunch and it was amazing! It was so great to sit out on the beach in 90 degree weather that they have year round in El Salvador while it is 30 degrees or so back in Texas. We tried to enjoy it as much as we could.
After the beach, we all loaded onto the bus and headed to a mall. It is a really nice mall with 3 stories of stores. The interesting thing about this mall was that it was open ended on all of the ends of the mall, but in the middle and in the stores there was air conditioning. This was something we got really excited about because we take that for granted all the time. We got to walk around and see some similar stores to what we see in the United States and then also see some very interesting stores that we had never heard of before. Oh and it also had a supermarket inside the mall!
Later, we came back to the Mission House and ate dinner which was basically a Philly Cheese Steak. It was so big! And it was ironic that it was on a plate that was half the size of it.
Anyways, this day was so great. We got some rest, fellowship, and sunburn. And we cannot wait to get to camp tomorrow and start session 2 of camp. We will have younger kids this session and are excited because working with younger kids is something that is new to most of us.
