Last day of camp :(
Camp is wrapping up today and we are bummed that it is somehow over. The days have been long but the week went by so fast.
We are sorry that we didn’t do this earlier in the week but here is a small tour of camp.
Before we get to the details of this last day of camp we want to show you one of the reasons that we love being here so much. The beauty of Gods creation is so evident here in El Salvador. We’ve had some incredibly beautiful sunsets. The trees and vibrant green grass make for a great place to have Camp. There are pine trees that make it feel like camp in Texas.
For this last day the spirit stick contest was huge! They campers were so loud. For breakfast the winners were the Wildcats of Brad’s cabin.
Everyone also went to their last bible study. We learned about others being first before ourselves. One of the cool things about the bible studies is that the Salvadorian staff allots for more time in the bible studies than we do at camp but they use every minute of it. It amazes us how they can keep the attention of all the kids.
Then we gathered for an all camp game called Oh Captain, my captain. Or El Capitan. Or Ships and Sailors. The kids got really into it and we had some really good games!
The lunch skit turned out to have a happy ending! The pet turtles that turned into evil turtles trying to take over camp came back and they challenged the ninjas to a battle for the camp. But right as they started, the sensei stopped everything. He said fighting is not the answer and that this is a camp where we dance. He asked all of the campers if we would help show the turtles how much fun we have when we dance. So we did the Wobble and part way through the song the turtles danced with us! After the dance they spoke to us and said they had fun and wanted to join our camp, not take it. So they all left to go protect our camp. All is safe on the El Salvadorian front.
We had camper share before we left. It was such a cool time to hear what God taught them during the session. Then Evelyn took time for each cabin to stand up and say something nice about their Pine Cove counselor. It was such a sweet time to see some of the fruit from the work that we put in. We are so grateful for our time spent with them this week.
Now we are on the bus headed back to San Salvador for our flight in the morning.
It is Avianca flight #440 from San Salvador at 9:00am and arriving in DFW at 12:40pm
