Hola Amigos, the gringos(the Dominican phrase for Americans) have made it back to America! We managed to make it back with all of our luggage, a pretty good tan(and/or sunburn), some sweet friendships, and a whole lot more knowledge about the power and goodness of Jesus Christ. Honestly our last day was just filled with travel, which would go as most people would expect. But as we got back to the Miami airport, we met up with some of the other Pine Cove groups that were flying back in from their trips. As we waited for our luggage to come around at baggage claim, the Outback staff naturally broke out in song to “See You Again” by Charlie Puth. After beautifully serenading the bystanders, we were all laughing because we came to the realization that we were the only ones singing… The other Pine Cove groups were patiently waiting for their luggage… Like most normal people would do. We thought being loud and crazy was something that every group did, when actually it might just be our group… Gotta love the Outback!! Regardless, the memories we made with each other, the national staff, and the kids are ones we will keep for a lifetime.
Since I’ve gotten back, I have been able to be still and reflect on our trip and I cannot help but praise the Lord for His sovereignty. I am reminded of Job 42:5, “My ears have heard you, but now my eyes have seen you.” The Lord allowed me to see first hand the way that He overcomes language barriers, because He is the inventor of all languages. My eyes were opened to a whole knew perspective of who Jesus is. He knows no limitation, because He is immeasurably more than all that we ask or imagine. How comforting it was to see that! I stood in awe of the overwhelming power of the gospel even through translation and it was something that I will take with me everyday of my life. I am so thankful that God uses us in all our brokenness as vessels to show His grace and love. I sit here in the stillness absolutely overwhelmed by the fact that we have been liberated from our bondage and got the opportunity to sing of that freedom in the Dominican Republic. So thankful for the past 10 days and for the lives of the kids that now know Jesus!
Finally, to everyone who gave and prayed to help support and fund this trip: THANK YOU!! Because of your generosity and obedience to the Lord we were able to fulfill Matthew 28:19 to go and let Him work through us to bring glory to His name. And we praise Him for that!!
